Tour of the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art

Having opened in its current location in 2006, the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art has become a premier destination for romantic evenings. It stays open until 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, which makes it a great destination before your 8 p.m. dinner reservations. The artwork will also inspire deep dinner conversations that will linger through the night. With some of the most popular exhibits from around the world visiting the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, you’re sure to see pieces you know and discover new favorites.

Dinner at A Pig in a Fur Coat

This restaurant, though cheeky in name, is no joke. It’s a small, informal restaurant where the flavors do all the talking. The menu ranges from trip to veal breast, and pork bellies are the house specialty.  With fries cooked in duck fat and a dry-aged strip sirloin prepared with bone marrow, onions, and sweetbreads, your taste buds are guaranteed to thank you at the end of the night.

Drinks at Forequarter

Forequarter is the newest restaurant from the catering company Underground Food Collective, and it features quite the creative cocktail menu, especially their Drei Apfel, which mixes apple brandy and maple syrup. Their cocktails focus on Collins, Aperitifs, and Amaro.

A Night at the Madison Opera

Founded in 1961, the Madison Opera performs four full-scale operas throughout the year. Their current season features performances of A Masked Ball, Acis & Galatea and Don Giovanni, plus a special Opera in the Park production. It’s sure to add an extra touch of culture to your life!

Dessert at the Chocolate Shoppe

Featuring over 110 unique flavors of pure Wisconsin ice cream, this dessert spot offers the best of the best to its visitors. There’s something to please everyone, and it makes for a tasty treat after a night on the town. With flavors like Fat Elvis (sweet banana ice cream with salty peanut butter) and Heaps of Love (oreos, brownies, cookie dough, caramel, pecans, and chocolate), you’re sure to get your fill of sweetness for the day, or even the week.

Coffee at Barriques

Voted Madison’s most favorite spot for coffee or wine by Madison Magazine, this shop is famous for their Wall of 100, which showcases 100 different wines for under $10. Their cafe features all of your favorite coffee drinks, and a few you wouldn’t expect like their Mexican Hot Chocolate with cayenne and vanilla, and the Miel with honey and cinnamon.

Check in to Mansion Hill Inn

Conveniently located in downtown Madison, this inn is consistently busy and is a local favorite. It has ten rooms, and guests can use bikes kept at the inn to traverse the Mansion Hill area. At night, guests are treated to freshly baked cookies on the porches. They’re great while you sip your nightcap and discuss your wonderful evening.

Breakfast at Mickies Dairy Bar

Head over to Mickies Dairy Bar for a delicious breakfast. Be sure to ask for their famous Scrambler, a dish they’ve been serving up since 1946 that contains scrambled eggs topped with cheese, on top of a bed of “yanks” (sliced potatoes) smothered in gravy.
